How our insinkerator installation & repair service works

A clear, efficient process — so you always know what to expect.

  1. Assess your sink and under-sink plumbing

We check the sink opening, flange compatibility, available cabinet space, existing waste trap, drainage connection and dishwasher inlet. We confirm whether the selected unit suits your setup before any work begins.

  2. Provide upfront options and pricing

We explain the required plumbing work, present clear options and confirm the price before we start. If we are supplying the unit, we advise on the right Insinkerator model for your household size and usage.

  3. Complete the installation or repair

We connect the unit to the sink waste, configure the trap and drainage connections, reconnect the dishwasher drain where applicable, and complete all required plumbing work under the sink.

  4. Test, check and hand over

We run the unit with cold water, check all accessible connections for leaks, confirm the drain is flowing correctly, and walk you through correct operation — including what to put in and what to avoid.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about our insinkerator installation & repair service.

Do I need a licensed plumber to install an Insinkerator in Queensland?
Yes. Under the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2018 (Qld) and the Standard Plumbing and Drainage Regulation 2019, all plumbing connection work — including connecting a food waste disposer to your sink waste and drainage — must be carried out by a QBCC-licensed plumber. DIY plumbing connections can void your Insinkerator warranty, create drainage problems, and result in compliance issues if you sell or lease the property. Pulse Plumbing, Gas & Civil holds QBCC Contractor Licence 15384771.
What Insinkerator models do you supply and install?
We supply and install the following Insinkerator products: Next Generation SR range food waste disposers (460SR, 550SR, 700SR, 750SR and 1000SR), the Neo Tank boiling hot water unit, and the full Insinkerator MultiTap range. The SR models suit different household sizes — the 460SR and 550SR for smaller households, the 700SR and 750SR for most families, and the 1000SR for large households or heavy use. The Neo Tank delivers instant filtered boiling water under the sink, paired with a dedicated filtered water line. Insinkerator MultiTaps combine boiling, hot, cold and filtered cold water in a single designer tap — ideal for new kitchen builds and renovations. Call 0452 188 420 to discuss which product suits your kitchen.
How much does Insinkerator installation cost in Brisbane?
Insinkerator supply and installation by a licensed plumber in Brisbane and South-East Queensland typically costs between $450 and $850 depending on the model selected, the complexity of the under-sink plumbing, whether the dishwasher drain needs reconnecting, and whether any adjustments to the existing waste trap are required. Our supply-and-install package covers the Next Generation SR range food disposers and Insinkerator boiling hot water solutions — all included in a single upfront price. Call 0452 188 420 or 07 2150 4175 for an upfront quote.
My Insinkerator is jammed — what should I try first?
A jammed Insinkerator is usually caused by a hard object (a spoon, bone or fruit pit) lodged in the grinding chamber. First, turn off the power at the wall switch. Locate the self-service wrenchette (a small hex key in a plastic sleeve attached to the base of the unit) and insert it into the centre hole on the bottom of the unit. Work it back and forth until the grinding plate spins freely. Use tongs — never your hand — to remove any object from inside the unit. Press the red reset button on the base of the unit, restore power and test with cold water running. If the unit still does not operate, call Pulse on 0452 188 420.
Why is my Insinkerator leaking?
Insinkerator leaks typically come from one of three places: the sink flange (where the unit mounts to the sink — usually a failed putty seal), the side discharge outlet (where the waste pipe connects — usually a loose connection or worn seal), or the bottom of the unit (which indicates an internal seal failure and usually means the unit needs replacing). Leaks under the sink can damage your cabinetry quickly — call Pulse on 0452 188 420 for a same-day assessment.
What food waste can I put in an Insinkerator?
Insinkerator units are designed for most natural food scraps: vegetable peelings, fruit peelings and pits, eggshells, coffee grounds, tea leaves, meat scraps, fish bones, prawn shells, pasta and rice. Always use cold water — not hot — when operating the unit, and keep the water running for 10–15 seconds after grinding is complete to flush the drain. Do not put fats, oils, grease, fibrous vegetables (celery, corn husks), large bones, oyster shells, glass, metal or non-food items into the unit.
Can an Insinkerator cause a blocked drain?
An Insinkerator can contribute to a blocked drain if the wrong items are put through it, if insufficient cold water is used during operation, or if the downstream pipework already has grease build-up. If your sink is slow to drain or backing up after using the Insinkerator, the issue is likely in the waste trap or further down the drain line — not the unit itself. Pulse can diagnose and clear the blockage using CCTV inspection and high-pressure water jetting.
Do you repair Insinkerator units or just replace them?
We handle all plumbing-related repairs: leaking flanges, worn seals, loose waste connections, blocked traps and drainage issues. Internal electrical or motor faults are outside the scope of plumbing work and require the manufacturer or an electrician. For older units (7+ years) with internal faults, replacement is usually more cost-effective than repair — we will give you an honest assessment and a clear price for both options.
How long does Insinkerator installation take?
A straightforward replacement of an existing unit typically takes 30–60 minutes. A first-time installation where the sink waste and trap need to be reconfigured can take 1–2 hours. We aim to leave your kitchen clean and fully operational on the same visit.
What areas do you service for Insinkerator installation?
We install and repair Insinkerator units across South-East Queensland including Brisbane (south), Logan City, Redland City, Ormeau, Beenleigh, Coomera, Pimpama, Upper Coomera, Oxenford, Helensvale, Nerang, Robina, Mudgeeraba, Burleigh Heads, Palm Beach, Southport, Ipswich and surrounding suburbs. Call 0452 188 420 to confirm availability in your suburb.
